Not all henna is of uniform quality. Basically, the richer the soil in which the henna plant grows, the better the henna. Moreover, henna improves as one travels east. In Morocco, henna grows in arid soil; therefore, it’s tough and yields a weak, yellow gold color. In Asia, Iran, Israel and Egypt, the soil in which the henna is cultivated is far richer, giving us a deep orange. In India the soil is richer still and produces the deep henna red.
